Day 5
Rome -> Florence

Hello everyone, it appears that my email is not thrilled with me sending lots of photos. But alas I will try my best. I guess sometimes it comes across formatted correctly and sometimes all of the photos are at the end. I will tell the story of our day and then match pictures to the story, but I’ll have a little picture guide at the end in case yours didn’t format correctly.

Today we traveled from Rome to Florence, but our streak of bad traveling luck is not done yet. After we failed to book our colosseum tour in advanced, we decided we should book our tour of the Accademia Galery. It is the galery that houses the famous David statue. We booked it for today with a gap of 2 hour’s between when our train is scheduled to drive and when the tour starts. Plenty of time to drop off our bags and get some food.

However the trains had a different idea. Our first train was 35 minutes late and as a result we missed our connecting train to Florence… very familiar feeling to day one. We unfortunately missed our tour time slot. This is Aydan getting on the train to Florence and when we first saw the Cathedrale of Santa Maria.

Our Airbnb is very cool. I think it is going to be one of my favorites.

We dropped our bags off and went to pick up groceries for our time in Florence. Aydan made us spaghetti with a tomato meat sauce. This was some of the best spaghetti I have ever had… and the only spice he had to work with was salt. With MINIMAL ingredients he made a 11/10 meal.

After we finished eating and planning our next couple of days, we set out to the streets. We went to the Piazza della Singoria, to see the Loggia dei Lanzi. It’s an open air museum. Very fun for me because I already knew some of the history behind the sculptures. We also saw the the Basilica of Santa Croce. (Big building)

We checked everything out and then Aydan heard live music and pulled us over to it. There was a band playing and people were starting to come around to dance. Naturally, Aydan and I hopped in.

The band played their last song and we went to our next stop of the night, the Ponte Vecchio bridge. Very beautiful, very romantic, very Italian.

We then walked home and settled in for the night. Tomorrow morning we are getting up early to try and get a ticket to climb the Santa Maria Dome. Wish us luck!

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
