Day 8
Venice

Hello everyone, back for the second time in one day! This email will not be as long as the previous because well, we had a short day.

Today we got off to a bit of a slow start after we all had a late one last night. I woke up around 7 and made the mistake of closing our windows so that no sunlight comes in the room. I then woke up a while later and figured we might as well get a move on for the day. I looked at my phone and realized it was 1:30 in the afternoon..
oops

We all got up in a little bit of a daze and I typed out yesterday’s email and made breakfast. We sat down to eat our breakfast around 2:30-3ish. After that we decided to get out there and check some things out.

Our first stop was the Bridge of Sighs. This was the bridge that transferred prisoners from Doges palace, where they would be judged on trial, to the prison next door. These were often prisoners for life or were sentenced to death. The white enclosed bridge got its name because prisoners going across would have one last look out of the barred windows at beautiful Venice and would sigh before going into the dark prison ahead of them.
The view behind us is the last view they would have.

On our way to the Bridge of Sighs, we got to see the Rialto Bridge during the day when some of the shops were open. Here are some pictures of our journey across town.

After checking out both of the bridges, we wanted to see the sunset. Yesterday we were on the wrong side of the island to watch it. We had to cross town to catch it. And it was well worth it.

We sat down and watch the the sunset, and got a few games in.

We walked home once it was down and here are some notable photos on the way back. We got calzones on our way back. I had never had one before and was not disappointed.

Once we were home we started to get all packed up for tomorrow morning. We are headed to Ljubljana, Slovenia. I am very excited for this city. We made a late dinner, spaghetti and meatballs with some white wine and garlic bread. Aydan and I are sad to say that it was not as good as his first spaghetti creation in Florence. It’s possible a miracle occurred in Florence when he made that dish with the ingredients he had. All that said, it was very good tonight.

Wish us luck on our travels tomorrow!

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
