Day 5
Florence

Hello everyone, I think I am able to format the email correctly now. Hopefully lol.

The statement above is incorrect. My email hates me.

Welcome back to your favorite newsletter. Me and the boys are in Florence and today was a day filled with lots of stairs. My quads are sore in the best way.

Our day started off with an early wake up call, with the hopes of securing a ticket to climb the dome of the Santa Maria Cathedral. We got up and found the ticket station. There was no one there and no line had formed yet, so naturally we broke out our chess board and started to get some games in.

Unfortunately the tickets for the dome were sold out for the next month… but tickets to climb the adjacent bell tower were not sold out. After going up 414 steps, we were at the top. Since we went up the bell tower, we had a wonderful view of the dome. The bell tower was caged in at the top which was not ideal for looking out. But the pictures turned out very good.

We came back down from the bell tower and hopped in line for the Cathedral. It’s hard to grasp how huge these structures are with just pictures and words. Buildings in the USA can be huge from the outside perspective, but inside they are often layered with many different offices or rooms. These massive open churches make you feel like you are outside when you enter. Trippy. Below is the 24 hour sun clock on one side of the church and the art inside of the dome on the other.

We left the church to go back home for a little nap time. That nap time quickly turned into a big fat 4 hour sleep. None of us set alarms. Idiots.

On the bright side we were all well rested and ready to go out again.

This time our sights were set on the Piazzale Michelangelo, a plaza overlooking the city from a perch on the Oltrarno district. Highly highly recommend checking this one out of you ever find yourself in Florence.

After drinking in the view, we were hungry and ready for food. We began by walking in the direction of our Airbnb in hopes to find something along the way.

We also had our eyes open for any leather stores, as Florence is world famous for its hand crafted leather products. A small shop caught my eye and we went to investigate. It was exactly what we were looking for. One man show, genuine quality leather journals, wallets, and passport covers. Aydan got a sweet passport cover and Nathan got a leather journal. I had to resist purchasing one myself, as I have 3 blank journals waiting for me at home.

We also swung by the Ponte Vecchio bridge during sun set, very pretty.

Now food was top priority. We found another place I would recommend, it’s called Berberè Pizzaria. Outof the 3 restaurants we have had pizza at, this one was by far the best. The others were great, but this one was simply better.

With full bellies we made our way home and have had a quiet night in preparation for the next city and a early morning tomorrow. We are hoping to get tickets to the Gallery of the Academy, to see Michelangelo’s famous David statue. I apparently always start this late and it’s now past 1am. Oops : |

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
