Day 9
Venice-> Ljubljana

Hello everyone, believe it or not we had another successful travel day! Today we woke up in Venice and are going to sleep in Ljubljana. Ljubljana is the largest city and Capital of Slovenia. It’s best known for its lush green surrounding area. The green is where we are going to explore tomorrow.

As for today, we had some breakfast and headed across the city to catch our train to the next country. Here are some of the views we soaked in before leaving Venice.

We hung out for a little bit before boarding our train. The train ride was very nice. It was spit up into two parts, first a 2 hour ride, then a 2 and a half hour ride. With an hour break in between. We got some food during our hour break. The first ride of the trip I took a nap, but the second ride I got some reading in and checked out the surroundings. Here is some of what I saw.

Lots and lots of green hills with towns tucked in between.  Once in Ljubljana we set out to get to our AirBnb. The sun was shining, people were eating outside, there was an event going on downtown.  Things were good, for now… we got to see the Dragon Bridge while crossing into downtown, about 2 minutes after crossing the bridge some very large rain drops started to fall. They were so far and few in between that we were not even getting wet, so we continued walking. 3 minutes after the first drops start falling: chaos. It starts to dump water from the sky.  All of the restaurants frantically trying to pack up their outdoor furniture and table. People are running in the streets to get home or to a dry spot. We look like idiots walking. Customers running inside for cover.
We paused and got our some rain gear, waited for it to calm down a little, and then continued.

Once we got to the AirBnb, we dried off and got settled in. By this time the rain had died down completely, and food was in order. We found a place called Tiflis, Gruzijska restavracija. Please don’t ask me to pronounce it. It is a traditional Georgian style restaurant. Please don’t ask me what that means. We sat down and ordered some food. Please don’t ask me what food we got. It was all around a good meal, it was a lot of bread. Almost too much.

Aydan played a little piano before we got our food, he also ordered lemonade that came out green? Nathan and I ordered some cornbread on the side, thinking it would be yellow sweet buttery bread.  (we are idiots) what we got was quite literally just corn and bread. It was one of the most plain things I have ever had. Nathan and I were thinking about blowing the locals minds and  introducing them to butter and honey, in combination to their cornbread. But we are not sure the people are ready for that sort of responsibility. All in all the meal was new and filling.

After our meal we went back to downtown to check out the things we rushed past. We saw a few of the different bridges in Ljubljana. Including, the Tripple Bridge, the Dragons Bridge, and the Buchers bridge.

We got some gelato from a somewhat fancy gelato store and let me tell you. It was some of the best we have had so far. Easily top 3, possibly #2 or #1. It is very close.
Now you may ask me “Terry, what validity does your gelato ranking scale have? You can’t just compare and rank different places. They have different styles and flavors.”  I would say you are right. However, every time we have gotten gelato, I have gotten strawberry. Sometimes I will toss in another flavor with it. But I always give my ranking based off of the strawberry. Air tight ranking system.
Here are some of the views we saw while eating are top 3 gelato.

We then went back home with the intentions of going to a karaoke bar once it opened. The rain had other plans. Once we got back home it started dumping again and killed our dreams of going out tonight. We are about to go to bed and as I’m writing this it’s about 1:15. Tomorrow we are doing our first day trip to a lake. Wish us luck!

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
