Day 3
Rome

Hello everyone! Day three is in the books. Today started with lost of sleeping in. As we stayed up until about 5:30am last night. It was not hard to say up, but it was hard to get up in the morning. However Rome was calling.

Our third day started a lot like our first, lots of disappointment. We were excited in the morning because we were on our way to tour the Colosseum, The Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Upon arrival, we learned that our reservation was for the 27th of next month… we had booked for the wrong month. Unfortunate, BUT things worked out just fine. We packed in a full day of walking around and seeing different sights. Our day began with the outside of the Colosseum and ended with a beautiful sunset.

This is us on our way to the Colosseum tour before we found out we messed up. How joyful, dumb, and naive we look.

Upon hearing the bad news we decided to walk around and check the surrounding area out. Our trip got split up into two parts. One part was pre-lunch, and the other was post-lunch.

Pre-lunch:

Piazza Venezia

The arch of Titus

Ancient Roman Chariot Race Track

The Roman Forum
There was actually a place we stumbled upon where you could overlook most of the Forum. I was very happy to see this because it was one of the things that I was excited for. Right above the two big trees on the right you can see people on the Palatine Hill.

Marcus Aurelius Equestrian Statue
This was my favorite thing we have seen so far. Marcus Aurelius has a book called “Meditations”. It is basically his personal diary, not written to be published, that somehow got preserved and passed down through the centuries. I am currently going through that book and it has given me some solid philosophical principles to chew on.

LUNCH TIME:
All of the great restaurants seem to be tucked away in random alleys, this was one of those greats. It is called La Nuova Piazetta and I can confirm their lasagna is bomb.

Post-lunch:
We began to head back home the long way, hitting multiple stops. Beginning with a second visit to the Trevi Fountain. Just as good the second time.

Trevi Fountain

The Pantheon

Piazza Navona

As the sun set we saw a bunch of cool views on the way home. Here are the favorites.

After that we pretty much chilled at the Airbnb and got ready for tomorrow. I once again took to long putting this email off and it’s now 2:30am. But oh well.

Honorable mention for favorite photos is this Italian man and his flowers, as well as this statue.

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
