Day 17
Vienna -> Salzburg

Hello everyone and welcome to Salzburg! We were fortunate enough to have a successful travel day and we have arrived in Salzburg.

The train ride over was not too bad. We attempted to get some sleep but were not very successful. We were eatin real good on this ride. Yesterday, we were successful in our search for peanut butter and stocked up. With all the peanut butter we could carry, we made PB&J’s the whole ride.

When we were about 20 minutes outside the city Luke and I looked at each other and knew that this was gonna be a good stop. There was so much green everywhere. The forests were exploding with life and the mountains were reaching up to the sky. We unfortunately didn’t get any pictures because we were so immersed in the scenery.

Upon ariving in Salzburg, we were pleased to discover that our Hostle is only a short 8 minute walk. It is also a 5 minute walk to the city center. Prime location and a small city made for a happy pair of travelers. We dropped our stuff and went to find food that did not have jelly in it. We decided on a traditional Austrian burrito. Very authentic. Along our walk over we a few pretty views.

The plate below with the lone chip on it, used to be nachos. When Luke and I took a bite of the nachos, we both realized we had not had a chip for the past 16 days. Forgot what they tasted like for a second there.
After eating we strolled in the direction of Fortress Hohesalzburg. Eventually finding a long flight of stairs. Many stairs later, we arrived at the entrance of the castle and were rewarded with an amazing view of the city and the surrounding mountains

Once we made it to the entrance, we decided to go in because it was not all that late and we had just walked all the way up. We walked up the rest of the very steep hill and once we got into the main courtyard we realized how massive the Fortresses is. It is like a small village up there. Once you are within the walls, you don’t feel like you are on the top of a hill.

We spotted a big outdoor chessboard on the ground near the church at the bottom of the hill. We made our was down and got a game in. I walked away with a win and Luke had challenged me to a rematch tomorrow at dusk.

After our game we walked around and saw the famous Residence Fountain from the Sound of Music. Naturally, we did the thing and splashed our hands around in the water.

On our walk back to the hostel, we also saw the garden from the Sound of Music. The clouds had also cleared up and made way for a great sunset. We lingered on back home and then posted up in the lobby with books and journals. We have not been very social on this Saturday night. We are both exhausted and looking forward to bedtime.

We are even more excited for tomorrow. We are renting E-bikes and riding south to a place called Kings Lake. It is going to be a good adventure day tomorrow. Wish us luck! It’s around 11:50pm as I’m finishing this. That has to be some sort of record.

If you have made it this far, thank you and you will hear from me tomorrow : )
